Frequently Asked Questions
Q : "What might I be able to earn from training?"
It's hard to be specific, because it will depend on whether you are running one day or several shorter sessions, but typically freelance trainers earn between £600 and £1000 for accredited courses, plus their travel expenses.
An attractive additional aspect of this training package, is the passive income potential from successfully referring clients to other programmes and resources, once you have qualified.
Depending how much time you can give to training, you could potentially run a course each half term for each twilight session that you can be available for. Top end might be 3 courses per week in each helf term. If you run holiday or weekend programmes this goes up too. If you are freelance then potentially any day that schools are open is a training day.
Q : "How many trainings do I need to run to recoup my investment?"
This depends how much you charge, but working on the minimum fee charge, just over two courses and you have got back your initial training investment. Bear in mind of course that you only have the initial investment in the first year and after that it's just the license fee to cover.
Q: "I'm in full-time employment, how could I possibly fit in training others?"
If you can spare a twilight session once a week, for four weeks in a half term, you can run a licensed course and potentially run 6 per year.
If you can offer more than one twilight per week then you can run many more courses. But there is nothing to stop you also running courses on Saturday's or holidays, if you wish, either as short drop-in sessions over a few weeks, or as a single whole day.
The more flexible you can be, the more you fit in. Typically twilights would start at 4pm or 4.15 pm to allow you to travel and set-up, or alternatively run them close to, or in your workplace.
Q: "It's a big investment for me... am I getting value?"
We do understand that it can seem a lot of money. However it's worth breaking it down into what you are getting for that money.
Typically three days of trainer's training would cost you several thousands of pounds in the open market. This part of the course is generic and will benefit your training and teaching skills as well as from a coach training perspective. This package also gives you additional webinar support, AND a box full of resources. You are also getting an off-the-shelf training that actually earns you money.
You are also gaining skills that you can use in your classroom at school, in training anything else you are interested in too. You are also getting business-start up advice and support.
The webinar sequence offers you information on how to set up and run your own business. The initial investment is potentially earned back in just two courses run by you. Plus you get on going support. It really is outstanding value.
Q: "You say that I can earn additional fees for referring clients..what exactly are these opportunities?"
When, as a part and parcel of the trainings you run, people find out about the resources and further courses available they are naturally curious. You will be shown how to tap into this curiosity and help them make informed decisions about what's right for them.
If referees make purchases, you will be paid a fee for each referral. These are typically between £50 and £100 depending upon the product or course.
Additionally if you recommend Coachmark (the national award for coaching in schools) and a school goes ahead with the award, you will be paid a commission. These commissions are confidential. There is absolutely no "selling" involved. In fact we actively discourage it.
Q: "I've no experience of marketing. How will I get clients?"
Will Thomas had no experience either when he began. But he has amassed a wealth of tools and tips, which are ethical and frankly just straight-forward, easy and come naturally.
As part of the programme you'll be given all the 'know-how' you need to get this underway. And remember you are not pushing or pitching yourself, you are offering a proven, accredited programme, which people are naturally interested in.
This is totally different from promoting yourself. You'll be taught an approach called Natural Matching, which is the total opposite of "sales training" - ethical, easy and authentic. So relax...this is the easiest part!
Q: "Do I pay Vision for Learning any commissions for the training I do?"
No. Over and above the initial investment which pays for your training, you pay a yearly license fee. The only additional expense is for certificates which are £1 per certificate, purchased in bunches of 30.
We want you to keep as much of what you earn as possible. So after you've paid the yearly fee you can run as many courses as you like as twilights, weekend, holiday or INSET day programmes and you keep the cash. However we do pay you commissions on any paying referals for our courses and products that you pass on.
Q: "What on-going support do I get?"
You'll get regular webinar-based support (each half term) which will include responses to your questions and additional support with building the quality of your courses. Within this support will also be inputs on developing your 'Natural Matching' approach for getting news of your courses out there. You will also receive updates and advice periodically on any changes to the programme or the coaching in education situation to keep you up to date.
Q: "As a Licensed Trainer, am I working under the Vision for Learning umbrella?"
You will have a Master Trainer certificate, you will have a Vision for Learning Licensed Trainer Seal and the right to use the IEC Logo to show you have qualified and are endorsed to run the coaching course under license. But you aren't actually working for Vision for Learning or The IEC, so you keep your autonomy and you are "your own boss".
Q: "What if I invest all this money, then I don't get clients?"
We can't guarantee you clients, because it's a self-employment arrangment. However this leaves you with the freedom and flexibilty as to how you go about working.
What we can guarantee is to share over a decade's evolving experience of authentically and successfully promoting and running courses. You don't have to do this "decade's-worth" of work, because we've done it for you.
We've developed the product and resources and the accreditation and all the bells and whistles that go with it. So you will walk away with outstanding trainer's training, all the resources and knowledge you need and the kudos of being licensed to accredit the programme.
Q: "Is there cold calling or hard sell?"
Absolutely not!! Will Thomas has never done this in over a decade of business. Research suggests, it doesn't work; and it is positively discouraged by us. Such methods are against the ethos and spirit of coaching.
Q: "Will Vision for Learning supply clients to me?"
We don't guarentee this. However, it may happen. The more flexible you are in terms of time available, and number of courses you run from your own efforts, the more likely this is. You are running your own independent business when you take up licensed trainer status.
We must stress that this is a licensing arrangement not engagement or employment. This is an important distinction, as it keeps you in control and means you are free from targets, expectations and any form of pressure over the number of courses you run. In this way you can work around your busy schedule and other commitments.
Q: "Who recognises the accreditation?"
There is no single recognised awarding body for coaching in the UK (or the world, in fact). The Institute of Educational Coaching (IEC) has been established almost a decade now. It works in collaboration with The University of Worcester, to offer a progression of award including Masters credits.
The full award is Accredited Coach Practitioner. This is composed of the Level 1 Introduction to Coaching ( the course you will be licensed to deliver), the Level 2 Advanced Coaching Skills Accreditation, and then the Level 3 IEC Accredited Coach Practitioner which combines the IEC's practical Coaching award and the University of Worcester's 20 credit Masters programme.
The IEC, Vision for Learning and The University of Worcester work closely to co-ordinate these accreditation opportunities. This also gives you credibility in encouraging uptake on your programmes once you are licensed.
In the future, there may be the possiblity of upgrading your license to deliver the Level 2 courses also. But this is not certain at this stage.
You can be confident that the licensed course that you will train to deliver, sits within a progression of qualifications, which combine the best of practical coaching skills with the necessary theory.
Q: "Can I train this licensed course outside of education?"
Yes. The content and process of the course are applicable anywhere.
Q: "Are there limits to the number of people I can train at one time?"
Technically no. However experience suggests that the highly engaging approach you will be taught, works best with a limit of 24 people. We will discuss this on the programme and the adaptations to the programme required with bigger groups.
Q: "Do I get my own geographical "Patch" of clients?"
No. We've deliberated over this. If you had your own patch, you'd be limited to a small number of schools, possibly in your county, and that might not suit you. You might want to cross the border to work with other schools you know, or are invited to work with.
Additionally, you might want to run "public" courses drawing from clients from a good distance apart or in other federations or collegiates. So we've kept it simple and flexible for you. This also means collaborations with other trainers are possible, increasing the scope for running courses.
Q: "What does it cost and can I pay in instalments?"
Licensing Training Investment: £1499 including VAT payable when you register for the whole programme. There is no instalment basis for this.
Yearly Licensing Fee: £599 including VAT per annum. Payable at the start of the 6 week webinar course for the first year. You can opt to pay this as a monthly amount. In this case the monthly fee is £59 including VAT and continues for the three years. Of course, this fee includes half termly webinar coaching support from Vision for Learning to help you grow the quality and progress of your offer.
Q: "What happens at the end of the three year licensing period?"
At the end of the period you will be invited to reapply for your license. There will be a refresher training package available, should you wish to re-new your license. The investment will not be anywhere near the initial investment of the first round.
Q: "I have enough admin in my life already. Will this license generate more?"
Only a tiny amount! We don't want admin either. Each course that you run, will require you to register the names of the people being accredited, by sending them to Vision for Learning. This is done simply by the people filling their details in on a spreadsheet during the course. Getting them to do this directly onto a laptop means all you have to do is save and email. You will need to send us a small sample of evaluation forms halfway through the year. That's it.
